Established in 2009, priced at a 36x multiple, this fully online retail business requires about 1 hour of work a week. General 100% online business – all management is done via email and online website interface. No phone calls, no physical intervention. Much of the duties can be performed on a smartphone, but for emails it is easier to use a laptop or computer. Since 2009, I have been selling a specific niche fitness item to customers in the US, Canada and Australia. US and Canada involves drop shipping from the manufacturer. Australia involves storage of the product within Amazon for fulfilment. Approximately 80% of profits are all via the US side. The product is manufactured 100% in the US. Workflow Orders are received via websites which all cater to the different regions (US, CA, AU). Once received, I log into the administrative interface and send fulfilment requests which are fulfilled by manufacturer/Amazon. Once fulfilled, I receive tracking, which I add into the administrative interface, which is sent to customers, and order is marked as complete. This serves as the bulk of the workload, and involves about 5 minutes a day. Answering emails about the product takes another 5 minutes a day. Paying for invoices for orders takes about a minute, but if you wish to confirm each individual invoice (as I do) it takes about 10 minutes. This is done about once a week. Total time is about 10 minutes a day + 10 minutes a week, equating to a little over an hour a week. The Business The product itself is a fitness equipment device that has a strong consumer monopoly, and therefore, is not easily replaceable. The brand has a strong 20+ year following, which contributes to a regular increase in sales. For privacy and protection, interested buyers will have to sign an NDA if they wish to know the exact brand and product. It is one specific product, with a few different variations. The product requires maintenance over the years, and so spare parts and accessories are an additional source of revenue for the business. It is key to note that this is a niche product which does not have many competitors as the manufacturing process is difficult. Stock, Storage The US and CA businesses have no stock storage, and all orders are fulfilled on an order by order basis by the manufacturer. The AU business involves storing units in Amazon in Australia, and the rest is the same as US and CA. AU stock consistently sells out. Growth and Sustainability Over the past 13 years, I have grown the online presence and dominated all search results for the product and brand. I have years of advertising data which provides a reliable source of sales. About 50% of sales come from advertising, the other 50% is organic. A significant majority of advertising is Adwords, with some Bing sales as well. In addition, I hold control of nearly all domain names related to the brand in question. So, for example, if one were selling Nintendo products, I own nintendo.com, nintendo.ca, nintendo.com.au etc. This provides a strong foothold with regards to ongoing sales. Profits Sales have increased dramatically over the last 6 years, stabilizing at around $29k gross/month on average, with approximately a 19-22% profit margin. The gross and margins vary from US/CA/AU, but these are aggregate estimates. The COVID pandemic saw a huge surge in sales as purchases of home fitness equipment increased, and sales have subsequently somewhat normalized, though there are still off months and on months. Relationship with Manufacturer I have interacted with and have a close professional relationship with the manufacturer and head of manufacturing for the product. This relationship will be transferred to the new owner. The manufacturer is aware of my interest in selling the business and has no issue with this.
