Business Description

For 40 years The Ski Renter in Cupertino has been a staple of the community and the place to get your Skis, Snowboards, accessories and more for the whole family. But we're getting older, we're both retired from our day jobs, and we'd like to see our grandkids more. The store has a well-established customer base in Cupertino, Saratoga, and San Jose (and even farther for some loyalists), an up-to-date and well-maintained inventory, and a well-trained staff should you decide to take on employees. Perfect for a solo operator or young couple looking to grow a business together, this 1500s/f rental shop includes everything you need to get started and includes as much hands-on training as you need for the first ski season. As a seasonal business, you will also enjoy 6-months of down-time per year so you can either take more time off or operate a summer business for more income. The store has moved up and down Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road a few times over the years and as this is the final year for our current lease, you will have the option to either renew and stay with the current location or move the business to a new location of your choosing. We recommend staying within a 5 mile radius to maintain the customer base. PERKS: - You get Summers off - 5-6 month winter sports season - Work with families and kids - Established Community Involvement - Plenty of opportunity for growth, especially into more retail - You always have the latest snowsports equipment for personal use ;-) Location: Cupertino, California Year Established: 1974 Number of Employees: 4 Real Estate: Leased Building Sq. Ft.: 1,500 Rent: $6,013.00 Per Month Lease Expiration: 4/30/2022 Facilities: We have a large up-to-date inventory of skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, and all the shop tools needed to keep everything maintained in peak working order. We also have a large selection of retail and rental outfits. Rather than list item-by-item, we suggest a tour of the store to see everything for yourself and get a feel for the business. The Unit lease is up for renewal, so you can stay in the same location or move to a new location that suits your needs better. We'll be happy to provide help and advice if you decide to move the store elsewhere. Website: theskirenters.com Market Outlook/ Competition: We have very little competition in the area - REI prefers to refer ski and snowboard rental business our way, Helm of Sun Valley is too far away to encroach on our territory, and the other Ski Renter in Mountain View (no affiliation) also serves a different market. Growth & Expansion: There are a lot of growth opportunities for this store. We're getting older and don't have as much energy as we did when we first bought the store, but we always thought it would be nice to expand the retail section and maybe move into camping and biking for the summer. If you're an active sports type, you could easily expand the rental equipment inventory to fit with your favorite summer demographic, or you could flip the focus of the store to do something totally different in the off-season like BBQ sales (Helm sells patio furniture in the summer).
